We are now carrying the Regatta Pro Starting System for Race Committee Supplies in our online store. The system takes away all of the human error that can occur when people are trying to get sound blasts off during a starting sequence. While serving Race Committee duties, I have wrestled with a shotgun and not been able to get the blasts off at the right time, at which point you abandon the sequence and start again. This is embarrassing, not to mention a waste of the racers time. We will have them in stock next week and will be writing a review on the product once we test it out. This summer, the Portland Yacht Club will be using the system for their events, thanks to a donation from the local J-24 Fleet 43. If you have ever raced in an event that uses this system, let us know how you liked it from the racing perspective. If you would like to know where to get your own Regatta Pro Start System, follow this link Regatta Pro Start.

The crew match party was a hit, once again this year. There were many new faces in attendance and I was witness to a few match ups for the summer season. I love attending the crew match each year and always get a chance to meet new people as well as catch up with those that I haven’t seen all winter. There were many great door prizes donated by the sponsors of the event. Some of the prizes included a foul weather jacket, donated by the Boathouse, a few gear bags, donated by Hamilton Marine & West Marine, Points East tee shirts and we gave away some coupons for free logo setup on a crew gear order. Gritty’s came through again with their delicious beer and it was enjoyed by all. It was great to see everyone at the party and we look forward to more good times this summer!

I just found two great race boats for sale that have been racing locally in Casco Bay and are for sale in Falmouth, ME. The first is a Taylor 41′, known to many as Sheerness and sailed by the Maine Maritime Academy. The asking price is $79,500. It will be interesting to see what MMA will sail this summer if it sells. Another great race boat for sale is a 43′ Dobroth Sloop, recognized as Revolution IX. The asking price is $129,500. Will this be replaced with a new Revolution X? New Wave Yachts is the listing broker for both options and if you want to see pictures and read more about these great boats, you can find them at Taylor 41′ and Dobroth 43′ .

This year the J-24 US National Championships will be held at Richmond County Yacht Club on Staten Island, NY. It will serve as a World Qualifier for the 2009 Worlds in Annapolis, MD. There should be a great turnout for this event as it is a world qualifier and we will keep you updated with results and more. Our local Fleet 43 will be represented by Mr. Hankey, owned and sailed by Andrew Carey and crew. He will be giving us a regatta report at the end of it, so stay tuned for the first hand scoop. If you would like m0re information on the event and how to sign up, go to J-24 US National Championship.

The Center Harbor 35 is an elegant, sophisticated and fast looking boat, designed by Joel White and built by Brooklin Boat Yard. The boat can accomodate a large party for a daysail, but can also be easily handled solo. If you would like to stay overnight, there are comfortable berths down below, amongst the beautiful teak and mahogany interior. I have raced on a Center Harbor design before, and I can say first hand that they are fast and they handle like a dream. This boat is a classic beauty and that is why it makes our brokerage boat of the month. To see more click here.
