This month we decided to highlight two different types of boats for our boat of the month. We chose a J-30, which is a less expensive option to get on the water, versus the Beneteau 36.7. Both are great, comfortable, race/cruiser boats that would make any new boat owner happy. See below for the reviews.
We will start with the J-30 listing, asking price $27,500. There are quite a few of these boats in Casco Bay and not too many years ago, there was a big one design class for the weekend races. The boat sleeps 6, has beautiful teak and holly sole, a drop leaf table for dining, and plenty of storage space for all of your things. The boat has been well maintained by one owner and we think it is a must see. To read further, click here.
Here we have another great boat, the Beneteau 36.7, with an asking price of $118,500. This boat has more bells and whistles compared with the J-30, and is much newer, only five years old. The head is complete with a shower and it would be a comfortable boat to cruise with the family. The bottom has been professionally faired so it will be a fast racer in addition to a cruiser. Casco Bay has one of these boats already so why not add to the fleet and create a great one-design class? (there were 50 boats at the North American Championships in Buffalo, NY last year) You can read the full write up with specs here.

Today is the final race day for the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Coed Dinghy National Championship. Boston College is leading, 17 points ahead of second place Georgetown. If BC wins, they will have had three victories across the board winning both the Women’s and Team Racing last week. In the Women’s regatta, BC came from behind to snatch the win from Brown University’s lead. It was very close racing and in the end just a 2 point difference between BC and Brown’s total score.
The Team Racing event, BC won with 14 wins and only 3 losses. Georgetown University was 2nd with an 11-6 record. Charleston was 3rd with a 9-8 record. There will be an exciting finish today for BC if they can celebrate a sweep of all three National Championships. We will keep you updated and let you know how it all unfolds. Tonight will be the announcement of the College Sailor of the Year and All American skippers and crews. I suspect that we will see many of the BC team members on this elite list.
