Pilot Regatta

The 44th Annual Pilot Regatta is PYC's season opener for local & regional sailors.  The regatta is an open event which means anyone with a sailboat can participate.

This year's event will include PYC's Schooner Trophy Race on Saturday.  The race is for PYC members only and is for any type of boat.  The Schooner Trophy Race is an afternoon romp around the bay with a fixed course around many government marks in Casco Bay.  This race is a great fun way to show your family and friends all that Casco Bay and Portland Yacht Club has to offer.

The Pilot Race was started in the 1960s as a competitive event between Hinckley Pilots. It has expanded to attract more than 50 boats of all sizes and degrees of competitiveness.  The two day event has competitors sailing courses around inner Casco Bay using government buoys and temporary drop buoys for turning marks. In 2007, there was a strong participation by one-design fleets; J/24s, Etchells, and J/105s, as well as PHRF racers, and PHRF cruisers.

The fun doesn't stop on the water.  Saturday evening competitors, their family, guests and club members are invited to join together for music, cocktails  and a great meal.  Come join the fun!
